Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 28,000 staff.
We are part of the most important integrated health and social care transformation ever attempted in the UK, which has brought our 10 hospitals together with North Manchester General Hospital having become the latest addition to the Trust on 1st April 2021, to deliver a Single Hospital Service that is both sustainable and high-functioning. With a large population to care for, it is of vital importance that we create a cost-effective and efficient service that can accommodate the needs of this generation and the next, and as such, we are challenging ourselves to find better ways of working.
We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology, Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.
“I started working at UHSM as a Procurement & Supplies Apprentice in November 2016 after completing my A-levels. This decision was by no means natural having had to weigh up further education or undertake my first step into a professional industry. Thankfully, I’ve benefitted greatly since, having had the opportunity to commit to a degree level qualification in CIPS which is recognised globally in the industry.
At the beginning of 2017, I had started to embark on a permanent role working in the Procure 2 Pay team at CMFT. Working alongside a significant transitional period of the merger of both Trusts really opened up to me the dynamics of MFT and how important and fortunate I am to work for the organisation. Since the latter stages of 2017, I have worked in various roles within MFT Purchasing, working in Capital & Maintenance as well as Clinical Purchasing where I remain today as a Senior Buyer, specialising in Ophthalmology & Dental services for the whole Trust.
I have been sincerely grateful to have had excellent leaders and managers, who continue to support my training and development with on the job training, courses, supplier visits and my CIPS studies. This has ultimately enabled me to manage and progress on various strategic projects that has all been made possible because of the support and guidance of the whole Procurement team.
During my journey at MFT, I have achieved an incredible level of job satisfaction by being able to impact on the goods and services provided at our hospitals. From liaising with our senior stakeholders to achieve a desired outcome for our patients and service users, whilst also trying to explore the most commercial outcome, has provided me with excellent job satisfaction that can be rarely matched in the industry.”
